Cover story

A new chemistry for the everyday start.

Dura Start Battery (Thailand) is bringing sodium-ion technology to the motorcycle starter battery, with research in battery management systems, packs and sodium battery materials.

Technology

Why sodium?

For decades, the motorcycle starter battery has meant lead-acid. Dura Start Battery (Thailand) was founded to change that, with a focus on sodium battery technology designed specifically for vehicle start-stop systems.

The company's work spans three areas: battery management systems (BMS), battery packs and sodium battery materials. The goal is a starter battery built around safety, stability and sustainability, for riders in Thailand and across Southeast Asia.

“A cleaner automotive future where every journey begins with sustainable, abundant energy.”Dura Start mission

Its first fully specified model, the DTZ5S, puts that approach into a compact 12V package: 80A of cold cranking current, an IP67-rated ABS case and a weight of about 454 grams.

Inside, a battery management system handles discharge, temperature, faults and communication, so the battery is managed from the moment it is installed.
